Relief Offered Through Islamic Conversion
The war between the B empire and the Sassanian Empire exhausted their resources and made them unpopular among local tribes. This left them vulnerable and weak. This weakness lead to more freedom for individuals religiously and monetarily. Umayyads took over the territory of Sassanians Empire, to expand Islamic rule. Zoroastrianism was the previous religion in the Sasanian Empire before the Umayyads took over and spread Islamic views. The way Umayyads got non-Islamic followers to convert was by using two different methods. If they didn't convert to Islam, Zoroastrian's were taxed extra, if they failed to pay the extra tax they were either killed or imprisoned. The other way was by promising money, and allowing them to keep some of their own cultural views and practices. Zoroastrians chose freedom and better well-being by converting to Islam. This blend of Zoroastrianism and Islamic cultures led to a mixture of their cultures, arts, and structures in the earlier periods and later periods a prominent showing of Islamic culture. This is shown in the Culture and Art tab on our site.
Map above shows where The Sassanid Empire reigned and their proximity to Islamic cultures.
